Coloring Pages

These coloring pages offer a fantastic stress relief activity that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age or ability. From geometric and intricate patterns to simple shapes we have lots of coloring sheets for you to print and color.

We tend to think of coloring in as child's activity.

Children can spend hours with a coloring book and a few pencils, carefully keeping between the lines.

Just because most coloring books are aimed at children it doesn't mean we can't enjoy the past-time as an adult.

As adults we tend to forget how absorbing and satisfying it can be. There are now many coloring books available with intricate patterns for adults to enjoy as well.

Geometric Coloring Pages

These geometric coloring patterns are created using intricate shapes that require lots of concentration and thought.

If you are stressed out and have a hundred thoughts going through your head but can't concentrate on any one thing try taking a few minutes to color in a picture.

You don't have to do the whole picture in one go, just do a little as the need arises.

If you are trying to keep within the lines or thinking about which color to choose next you won't be thinking about anything else.

The process can often give you just the right amount of distraction to help you think straight again.
The great thing about this activity is that it's an easy craft to take with you wherever you go. You can take your pencils or pens  out in the garden, on the beach or even in your lunch break.
There are lots of intricate coloring books aimed at adults or older children some of these have very detailed geometric patterns that require lots of concentration to keep within the lines.

Kids Coloring Pages

Get the kids involved with these great kids coloring pages.

Some of my geometric patterns are easy enough for the kids to color but they may prefer these easier drawings.

Just because these are easier doesn't mean that adults can't enjoy coloring in these pages too.

The great thing about coloring is that it's a great activity for all the family to enjoy whatever your ability.

Coloring Pencils

Coloring pencils come in almost any color you can think of and there are many different types to choose from.

The cheap and cheerful pencils that are sold for children are great for coloring in.

They are usually waxed based and can be either soft or hard depending on the make.

You can get some great effects by blending the colors together or smudging them with your finger. You can press hard or lightly for different effects, just have some fun experimenting until you are familiar with the pencils you are using.

Wax based crayons are also available in most art and craft shops. The more expensive ones will have more pigment to wax. These tend to blend better and are less streaky but they are not essential for the coloring in experience.

Water Soluble Coloring Pencils

You can also get water soluble pencils that work like water color paints.

As these are water soluble you can blend them with a little water to give a paint like finish.

They are wonderful to work with and can be used in lots of different ways.

You can dip the pencil in water before applying it. You can use them on damp paper or apply them dry then blend them with water.

They can be used as regular pencils with out water as well. These pencils can give very vibrant colors and blend much better than wax based crayons.

If you are using them with water it is a good idea to use thicker or water color paper as thin paper will buckle or tear when water is added. Experiment with them until you find the best technique for you.

Felt Tip Pens

Felt tip pens are great for coloring in and come in a wide range of colors.

The colors are vibrant and brighter than coloring pencils. The pointed tip makes it easy to keep within the lines and you don't have to sharpen them.

Do keep the lids on when not in use or they will dry out and leave scratchy marks on your paper.

If your pens do dry out try getting the nib wet by dipping it in a little water then remove the excess water on a scrap piece of paper. Sometimes this can rehydrate the nib and get the ink flowing again.

They are permanent though and cannot be erased if you make a mistake. They can also mark hands and clothing, although they are usually washable and come off hands easily you may need a stain remover to get the ink off of clothing.

Gel Pens

These are similar to felt tip pens and have a fine nib to give you plenty of control.

Like felt tip pens they come in a wide range of colors.

Gel pens can also be bought with a wide range of different effects, you can get sparkly pens or metallic effects as well as neon or pastel colors.

Like felt tip pens they are permanent and may be hard to wash off of clothing.

Other Coloring Pens and Pencils

Marker Pens like sharpies come in a range of colors and are great for coloring in.

They are expensive in comparison to felt tip pens and are best used for signs or posters. They are permanent and very hard to wash out of clothing.

Wax crayons are great for young children as they leave very little mess. They do not have a good tip to them as they are soft and become rounded very quickly.

Make Your Own Coloring Pages

A great way to de-stress is to doodle on a piece of paper.

Draw shapes like a square over and over on one sheet of paper, draw some of them big, others small, overlap them or keep them separate.

Once the page is full then color them in.

Draw lots of loops and circles on a page like in the example above then color in the whole page.
